Chapter 1
Scarlet
“Luna, it’s everyone,” Rose told me and I looked at her, glancing around. I noticed everyone was gone.
It had been the most ordinary day in the crescent moon pack and I felt so tired after having to deal with the affairs of the pack. I was the Luna and most times I didn’t think my Pack members valued or loved me.
The day I shifted to Wolf for the first time, at eighteen, I discovered my wolf was the weakest Omega. Not only did they look down on us, but they also devalued us in the Pack. The Pack regarded my kind as outcasts, relegating us to the bottom of the hierarchy and making us the last to eat.
However, when I mated with Scott, the Alpha of the Crescent pack, I became Luna. Scott had to marry me, and since then, I have been trying my best to become a respectable Luna, even though it was difficult most times, and my mate made it worse for me.
I flashed Rose a weak smile and nodded. Gathering my things, I headed back home, and perhaps when I arrived at the empty house, I would lie down and rest on my back since I had been sitting for a long time.
My eyes dilated when I pushed the door open to see Scott at home. He was sitting on the sofa in the living room sipping from the glass he held, just as always, his pretty eyes sparkled, and a smile was on the corner of his lips like something great had happened to him.
He crossed his long legs covered in black trousers, his hair was styled backwards and his sleeve rolled up to show off his tight muscles. He was just like I always pictured him, a model and every lady’s dream.
I walked into the living room with a smile curved up on my lips. My wolf leaped with joy at the sight of Scott because, ever since we got married, he had rarely come back home early.
“You are home.” A smile spread along my lips as I looked at the man I have loved all my life, but his gaze held nothing but coldness, and my smile flattered.
After we got married, Scott had always been cold to me, and there was no spark between us. Even having sex felt like he was completing a task. I love him so much, and I hope one day he will love me back as much as I love him.
“I just got back from a pack meeting. Since you are home early, what would you like for dinner?” I asked enthusiastically while putting down my bag and coat.
“My lover, Kelsey, she is pregnant.” These first words from his lips hit me like a lightning bolt and I froze and stared at him in disbelief.
It took me some minutes before I could snap out of the shock. “What?” It was the first time hearing this. He had a lover? And that lover was Kelsey, my best friend.
My lips parted, and I looked at the man I love. My mate had said it so casually, like I was supposed to accept the fact, I felt a burning sensation in my heart as my vision blurred in tears.
“Kelsey?” My lips trembled as I walked closer and looked at his face. He held my gaze. “I am your Luna. Why would you sleep with someone else?” I searched his eyes, but they held no guilt or remorse.
His eyes darkened, and he scoffed. “Don’t make me laugh. I don’t regret doing it. Betraying you is just as easy as talking about the weather.”
For a while, my eyes blackened, and it felt like someone stabbed me in the heart with a sharp knife while the wolf in my heart was howling. Tears rolled down my cheek, and I stepped back, clenching my shirt as the pain in my heart was unbearable.
The first day Kelsey was brought to the pack house, I was glad that Scott had saved her since she was in danger. Kelsey and I became confessed friends, and I never imagined she would be sleeping with my mate.
I usually felt pain in my heart, but I thought Scott's resentment was the cause. However, the truth hit me like a bombshell - Kelsey betrayed me along with my husband.
Scott got to his feet and tucked his two hands in his pockets. He gave me a once-over as if I was being too much, and then his lips parted slowly. “Stop being dramatic with the tears. You don’t have to think too much about it as I won’t be taking away your Luna position for the time being."
He tilted his head backwards with a smile. "You should be grateful to Kelsey since she suggested this. She is very kind and is a good friend. She didn’t want to hurt you. So she isn’t being greedy to take your position as the Pack Luna, find some time and send her your gratitude."
Tears shimmered in my eyes. I was expected to feel good about these words. They were supposed to apologize to me. How could I be the one grateful for her kindness? What kindness? She had an affair with my mate, he cheated on me, he betrayed me and expected me to be grateful to her.
Scott was about to walk away, but stopped to look at me again. “Ah, by the way, I will be giving Kelsey a proper identity in the pack at the meeting the day after tomorrow,” He smiled like he couldn’t see me crying or in pain.
Then his eyes quickly darkened. “Don’t be delusional and find a reason to hurt Kelsey. She is carrying my child and the heir of this pack. If any harm comes to her, you will be in trouble!” He warned me with a frown on his face.
Without casting me another glance, he walked out of the living room and I fell on my knees in gut-wrenching pain.
